As we search through a fridge full of leftovers or comb through a pantry of dried pasta or canned goods in search of an afternoon snack, it may seem surprising for many to learn that a number families and college students in San Marcos qualify as food insecure, meaning that they do not have reliable access to a sufficient amount of affordable, nutritious food.

Mistick Krewe plans city-wide 'Yardi Gras' competition

For almost a decade, the Mistick Krewe of Okeanos Mardi Gras Parade has brought together residents, revelers, and local businesses in a fun-filled celebration of the community, neighborhoods, and the spirit of Mardi Gras. The annual parade traditionally features residents, locally owned businesses, talented musicians, and artists providing entertainment for the families of San Marcos.

At 4 p.m. this Tuesday, January 26, Paulette Jiles, author of “News of the World” and many other works, will be interviewed live on “Bookmarked,” our weekly broadcast for all readers. She will talk with hosts Priscilla Vance Leder and Garrie Borden about her latest novel, “Simon the Fiddler.”
