Virtual teaching spaces assist online instruction

Navigating the virtual learning space can be challenging for both students and instructors. Texas State University’s Teaching Space of Tomorrow is designed to make it easier. Devised by the Division of Information Technology, the Teaching Space of Tomorrow is a combined instructional studio and faculty office created to take the online teaching and learning experience to a new level.

San Marcos CISD kicked off National GEAR UP Week with 150 students attending the GEAR UP Athletic Symposium–Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs–inside the University Events Center at Texas State University. Rattlers from San Marcos High School and Goodnight and Miller middle schools took part in the event on Monday, Sept. 25. Keynote speaker Briana DuBose spoke about her time as a basketball player at Virginia Commonwealth University and American University. A panel discussion with Texas State student athletes, coaches and staff was held, with athletic facilities tours and a time management workshop.

Bears stun the Rangers on buzzer-beating touchdown

In one of the most thrilling games of the season, San Marcos Academy defeated Texas School for the Deaf, 40-38, with the Bears winning on a buzzer-beating four-yard touchdown pass to beat the Rangers.

Community honors late Dr. Elvin Holt

Whether through his contributions at the Calaboose African American History Museum in San Marcos or his research at Texas State University where he served as teacher and scholar, becoming a professor emeritus, few will likely forget knowing Dr. Elvin Holt, who died on Sept. 18, days before his 78th birthday.
