Football season is here with college football Week Zero games starting this Saturday and high school football games starting next Thursday.

SMCISD sends tax rate to November ballot

The San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District approved the certified appraisals from Hays County, Caldwell County and Guadalupe County and adopted the tax rate of $1.0152 per $100 of taxable value. According to SMCISD Board President Anne Halsey, this means that the November ballot will be a Voter Approved Tax Rate Election with the option to vote for or against the district receiving two additional Golden Pennies on its total tax rate, which are worth a penny a piece per $100 of taxable value.

Government: US economy added 818,000 fewer jobs than first reported in year that ended in March

The U.S. economy added 818,000 fewer jobs from April 2023 through March this year than were originally reported, the government said Wednesday. The revised total adds to evidence that the job market has been steadily slowing and likely reinforces the Federal Reserve’s plan to start cutting interest rates soon.
