A recent exhibit created by Texas State University Fine Srt thesis students took the community to another dimension on Dec. 2.
The 8th anniversary of the shooting that led to the death of Texas State University student, Justin Gage, marked another significant event in the case Wednesday in Hays County.
San Marcos City Council discussed and voted in favor of the allocation of $550,000 of the Human Services Grant Fund from the city’s general fund and $100,000 from American Rescue Plant Act funds to different nonprofit organizations in town at the regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday. Various organizations had applied for specific amounts of funding and the Human Services Advisory board evaluated the groups across different criteria, including the city’s need for the services it provides, and gave recommendations on how much to allocate to each of the groups.
San Marcos City Council discussed the possibility of the establishment of a single-use container ban in all riverfront parks at the regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday. The discussion focused on the specifics of what that could look like for the city, what ways the rules could be equitable and unique to San Marcos and possible procedures for enforcement as well as the suggestion of a strategic partnership with Texas State University to enforce the ban in Sewell Park.
The San Marcos City Council has a full agenda at its regularly scheduled meeting set for 6 p.m. today, including considering amendments to the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Policy, that allows for assistance with a lower percentage of income used for housing. The council is also set to discuss a single- use beverage container ban and cooler size limitation for riverfront parks, as well as consider $2 million dollar purchase of 108 work vehicles for various city departments and consider provision of American Rescue Plan Act funding for various entities.
As part of the World Hanukkah Observance, in San Marcos at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, a giant menorah candelabra will be lighted at the Hays County Historic Courthouse.

One of this nation’s first noted photographers, Edward Curtis, spent much of his career creating images that today are recognized as an attempt to create visual documentation of Native Americans.
San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees listened to another presentation and additional public comment on the possible restructure of the board from five single-member districts and two at-large trustees to seven single- member districts at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday, Nov. 13. There were only two public comments on the item: one was for the restructure of the board and one was against it.
