2nd Annual San Marcos Studio Tour upcoming

MotherShip Studios presents the second annual San Marcos Studio Tour. The tour will include artists' studios within the San Marcos and Martindale city limits and will run April 5 - 7, the weekend preceding the big 2024 Eclipse. It will begin with a kick-off event at MotherShip Studios on April 5 at 7 p.m. where guests can mingle with local artists and explore a group exhibition of all the participating artists which will run for the duration of the tour.

Golden Sweetheart’s Ball tickets are on sale now

The city of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the 23 rd Annual Golden Sweetheart’s Ball on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 6-10 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center, located at 501 E. Hopkins. This Valentine celebration is geared toward couples and singles, ages 50 and above, in San Marcos and surrounding communities.

KZSM: Variety Comes with Scheduled Shows and Surprises

We at 104.1 and KZSM.org proudly serve this diverse, vibrant community with programming created for a broad range of interests and tastes. Live music shows hosted by volunteer DJs encompass Celtic (“Celtic Corner,” Saturdays 12-2 p.m.), country (“Texas River Tonk,” Fridays 12-2 p.m.), heavy metal (“Metal Mark Live,” Thursdays 10 p.m.12 a.m.), and more. To broaden the scope of our music offerings even further, our volunteers have created music blocks— twenty-minute segments showcasing specific types of music.

San Marcos civic leaders to travel to Kentucky for InterCity Leadership conference

The last InterCity Leadership Conference trip to Tucson and Phoenix allowed attendees to participate in presentations on workforce training, housing challenges, business retention and expansion, and university research and commercialization.

San Marcos civic leaders to travel to Kentucky for InterCity Leadership conference

The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce is co-hosting its fifth InterCity Leadership conference, along with presenting sponsor Texas State University and co-sponsors Greater San Marcos Partnership and Chuck Nash Auto Group.

How to adopt these pets

Both pets are available for adoption at the San Marcos Regional Shelter. All ready-to-go pets are normally $22 and include spay/neuter, vet exam, vaccinations, and a microchip. To meet the pets, visit the San Marcos Regional Animal in person from noon-7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from noon-5 p.m. on Saturdays, or online at www.sanmarcostx.gov/adopt to choose a pet and fill out an online adoption application. Then, give the shelter a call at 512.805.2650 or email animaladoptions@sanmarcostx.gov. Anyone interested in fostering a pet should email foster@sanmarcostx.gov or visit www.sanmarcostx.gov/foster to fill out a foster application.

Local Texas Army National Guard troops to deploy

Military deployments are not limited to warzones. Soldiers can be sent all over the world for various reasons. No matter the mission or location of deployment, they appreciate the support of the community. It is a difficult job that many are unable or unwilling to do but are benefited by in every way. The 4-133rd Field Artillery Regiment (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems) is located in San Marcos.

The late Emmett and Miriam McCoy, longtime benefactors of Texas State University for whom the McCoy College of Business is named, have been posthumously honored with the 2024 Texas Higher Education Distinguished Service Award for their extraordinary contributions and service to higher education in the state.

City launches Tree Removal Assistance Program

The city of San Marcos Community Forestry Program is now accepting applications for the Tree Removal Assistance Program. Funded through the U.S. Department of Treasury’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the city was awarded $135,000 to aid low-income residential homeowners in removing unsafe, dying or dead trees over their homes with no out-of-pocket cost to the homeowner.
